Serving at Ancla de Amor.
I, Johnny Friesen, was born in Morden, Manitoba. As a child, I moved back and forth between Canada and Mexico multiple times. In 2000 we moved back to Canada and I decided to stay in Canada ever since. I have been a member of the Zion Mennonite Church for almost 6 years; I gave my life over to Christ and was baptized in 2012. The following years I continued to have struggles with still looking to fill the sense of emptiness with material things. Soon I felt God calling me to serve. I began serving at Siloam Mission in Winnipeg on a weekly basis. A close friend of mine asked if I would be interested in going on a mission trip to Mexico. I was hesitant at first but I signed up to go on the trip not knowing what to expect. My time in Mexico was such an incredible experience that it left me with tears in my eyes. That moment I knew I found what I needed to do. I realized I had wasted effort chasing material things and looking for earthly things to fill the emptiness that I felt. I made a promise to myself that I would return to Mexico. Only now, four years later, am I going back to Mexico. Although my plan was to return to Mexico much sooner, I know that God had a purpose in keeping me in Canada longer. This is a new journey for me and I still think about the many unknowns that are ahead as I go to serve in Mexico. I humbly recognize that I still have much to learn and may still face difficulties, but I know that I can rely on the Holy Spirit for power and strength. I appreciate prayer support from you!
